Sutton Harbour Marina is located within the historic harbour renowned for its cobbled streets and quaint architecture

Sutton Harbour is the historic heart of Plymouth, with some of the oldest buildings in Britain’s Ocean City alongside exciting new developments created as part of harbour’s widespread regeneration.

Perfectly positioned between the bustling city centre and the sea, Sutton Harbour and the adjacent Barbican quarter form the historic centrepiece of the city and enjoy a strong heritage of maritime adventure.

Cobbled streets line the harbourside and are awash with maritime history and more than 200 listed buildings, from the Mayflower Steps at the entrance to Sutton Harbour from which the Pilgrim Fathers set sail for the New World in 1620 to the world-famous Plymouth Gin Distillery, housed in a former monastery dating back to the 15th century.

Come rain or shine, there is always something happening in this bustling, dynamic waterfront city.

World-class events are frequently hosted in Plymouth and with its rich maritime history, the city attracts a wide range of water-based events, many hosted in the harbour, from tall ship visits to sailing rallies.

Sutton Harbour Marina offers berthing packages to suit your needs.

Our marina team are knowledgeable and friendly and will be more than happy to talk through our packages and what we can offer.

All of our berths are fully serviced with local utility connections and nearby pump-out facilities.

Enjoy 24-hour access to your secure walk-ashore berth with gated access monitored by on-site personnel and CCTV.

Services and Facilities

Situated in the heart of Plymouth, where the city meets the sea, Sutton Harbour Marina boasts an enviable location as well as superior marina facilities and excellent customer service. 

All berths are fully serviced with local utility connections and nearby fuel and pump-out facilities as well as 24-hour gated access.

The award-winning marina is monitored by on-site personnel and 24-hour CCTV. Berth holders also benefit from the Sutton Harbour lock gates, providing unrivalled shelter and protection for all vessels.

The lock is staffed 24-hours-a-day with access available upon request and a free flow period of up to three hours either side of high tide when locking through is not required.

SailGP

The third event of SailGP Season 2 took place in Plymouth on 17th & 18th of July.

Australia beat France and the United States in the winner-takes-all Final on Plymouth Sound.

LOCK ACCESS RESTRICTIONS DURING ESSENTIAL LOCK GATES WORK

The first phase of a major repair and refurbishment project on the lock gates in Sutton Harbour is taking place from September to December this year. The second phase will take place from January to April 2024. 

During these essential works there will be times of restricted access through the lock which means that the normal freeflow timetable does not apply. 

Instead, a lock access timetable will be in operation and is available by following this link to the dedicated project website.

Please also note that the Duty Lock Keeper will also broadcast on VHF CH 12, on the hour from 07.00 to 19.00 daily during the works, updating access times. Vessels are advised to listen to these broadcasts for the most accurate passage times through the lock. 

Lock Freeflow Times

There is a free flow period of up to three hours either side of high tide. 

For passage through Sutton Lock, all vessels must contact the lock office on VHF CH12 to arrange for lock-keepers to swing the footbridge.

Sutton Harbour Marina is based in the heart of historic Plymouth, Britain’s Ocean City, which is well served by road and public transport services. 

BY ROAD: The M5 and A38 Devon Expressway connect with the national motorway network. For sat nav systems, use the postcode PL4 0DW. 

BY RAIL: Mainline rail services are available to Plymouth Rail Station, followed by a five-minute taxi ride or 20 minute walk. 

BY SEA: The marina can be found at Lat 50º 21’ .98N Long 04º 07’ .96W. Vessels can access the marina via Sutton Lock, situated on the east side of Plymouth Waterfront. The lock is free, staffed 24 hours a day and operational upon request.
